Mykonos town – Mykonos, Greece

Our first stop in the Cyclades was Mykonos, one of the most famous greek islands. There are a few villages on the island and the biggest one is Mykonos Town, also called Chora.

We stayed outside of the town, but thanks to our hotel complementary shuttle it only took us 10 minutes to get there on one afternoon. We were dropped in the harbour area, where all the jet set parks their giant yachts.

When you think of Mykonos, you think parties, VIPs, and bling. Well, we headed into town and were actually welcomed by the most charming little houses and cobbled streets.

No pretentious looking villas and cars here, everybody walks around and every crossroad looks like a postcard.

We also happened to be there during the bougainvillea season, which made the entire town even more charming!

Our exploration took us to all the main landmarks.

The Chora windmills, one of the famous sights of Mykonos. They used to mill wheat (did I tell you that the bread in Greece is delicious?) but nowadays they only model for the tourists’ pictures.

We then headed down the hill to the Little Venice. A beautiful neighbourhood sat by the sea and the perfect place to grab a glass of wine while enjoying the sunset (more on that here!).

We found the Church of Paraportiani, dating from the 17th century, which was built by joining 5 little churches into one giant one.

Finally, we ended our visit at the Old Port, taking a few picture of Agios Nikolaos, before deciding where to have dinner (my favourite addresses are here!).
